Helen Rawlings

I am an artist currently living and working in North Yorkshire finding most of my inspiration from my beautiful surroundings. I have always enjoyed painting animals and birds, also accepting commissions for animal portraits.

After having completed an Illustration course at Harrow School of Art (University of Westminster) I was asked to paint a portrait of a friend’s horse and things sort of snowballed from there. Working almost exclusively in watercolour I completed many commissions, painting in a very tight and lifelike style.

Too many adventures to recount in this space, but in a nutshell; I stopped painting for a living, joined the police, moved to Brighton, got married, retired, got a degree in theology and ordained as a self-supporting minister in the Church of England, started painting for a living again. Soon after this I moved to a parish in North Yorkshire and widened my scope of media in my art, working in a slightly looser style.

I love experimenting with new techniques, and now, although my subject matter may be around a similar theme, my method of work is very varied, from egg tempura icons, to large bold acrylics as well as different hand printing techniques.
